Creating a Project Using the Experios AI Import Wizard

Experios includes an AI-powered Import Wizard that allows you to take an existing PDF or DOC file and automatically convert it into a responsive, mobile-friendly Experios publication. This tool is ideal for quickly transforming brochures, reports, manuals, magazines or any long-form content into interactive digital pages.

To create a publication from a document, create a new project and select ‘Experios AI’ from the ‘Create’ screen. This will open the Import Wizard, which will guide you through the project creation.

Upload a PDF File

After giving your project a title, you can upload your .pdf file by dragging it over the ‘Add Content Source’ area. Alternatively, you can click ‘Upload’ to browse for a file on your computer.

Once uploaded, the file name will appear at the bottom of the box. If required, you can remove the file by clicking on the ‘x’ beside its name, or upload another file to replace it.

Choose Content Structure

After clicking ‘Next’, you will be prompted to choose your preferred way of dealing with your document’s content:

  • Follow Source Structure
    This option will attempt to closely replicate pages from the pdf, within the rules of the Experios design system.
  • Follow Suggested Structure
    This option will reorganize your pdf content into a more web-friendly and responsive layout.

Review/Merge Pages

After uploading the document and selecting a document structure, the wizard will show you a preview of your document’s pages. Here, you can choose which pages to include/exclude, using the eye icons to the top-right of each page thumbnail. You can also help the AI with the import by choosing a page type (cover, letter, article or back) for each page to be processed.

At this stage, you can also merge multiple pages from the original document together. To do so, select multiple pages using the Shift or Ctrl keys (Option on Apple computers). Selected pages will have a blue outline around them. Once multiple pages have been selected, the ‘Merge Pages’ button will become active. Clicking this will then merge all currently selected pages in the order in which they were selected.

Apply a Brand to your Project

Let Experios know how to style the document content by applying a brand to the new project. If you haven’t already created an appropriate brand, you can apply a Quick Start Brand to get you going by selecting fonts and colors for your project’s headings and body text.

Generate Your Responsive Publication

Once you have applied some branding and clicked ‘Create’, Experios AI will extract the content from your pdf, interpret the text and images contained in the file and rebuild them using responsive web components.

When the process is finished, your new project will open on the Experios Canvas. From here, you can freely edit the content and layouts just as you would with any other Experios project.
