Question
I encountered an issue today, when we uploaded the pulication to an IIS Server (previous versions were uploaded to an Apache server). When I went to the publication URL, an error message about not allowing nested objects appeared.

I found a workaround at http://seanys.com/2007/09/10/asp-flash-nested-objects/ but is there another way to resolve this issue, without having to create a server-side include every time?

Solution
Microsoft IIS’s ASP interpreter incorrectly doesn’t allow a page with nested <object> tags, resulting in the following error message:

Active Server Pages error ‘ASP 0139’

Nested Object

/yourWebpage.html, line XX

An object tag cannot be places inside another object tag.

You can avoid this error by using one of the following workarounds:

Note: This workaround will be depend on your specific situation

• Configure IIS not to serve .htm or .html files as ASP

OR

• Use a server-side include

It is best to change the server settings so that IIS doesn’t serve .htm and .html files as ASP and the only option is the server-side include that you are currently using.
