Proof Read: Make sure your content is interesting, share with friends or an editor, make sure the copy has no typos. The more eyes on your work the better to provide you with constructive feedback.

Market and promote: Spread the word, let the world know where your book is available from. Join social networks, publishing forums and discussions and actively sell your book. Offer some of your books for free to give readers a taste of what to expect from your book.
Approach media, journalists, publicists and critics as a single good review from the right person can be enough for your book to get noticed.

Enter competitions: Many amateur writers have found fame and adulation from winning writing competitions. Get your work out there, be confident.

Price: A large percentage of eBook readers are price sensitive. A constant conflict rages throughout the publishing industry on the right price structure. Thus, many independent authors now use low pricing as a way to get readers to take a chance on their new book.

Book Review: Pay for a press release or a book review. Authors can pursue literary reviews of their work for a fee.
